The Center for Italian Studies of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology was established in 2006 as part of the agreement between Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the Italian Institute of Culture in Ukraine.
The Center for Italian Studies at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology serves as an important hub that not only promotes the development of Italian language and cultural studies, but also actively fosters cultural exchange between Italy and Ukraine. Through its initiatives, students and faculty members have the opportunity to participate in various conferences, engage with representatives of universities, artistic associations, and the Italian Embassy in Ukraine, organise events aimed at promoting the Italian language, history, and culture, and take part in international projects.
Each year, the Center for Italian Studies at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology takes part in events dedicated to the Week of the Italian Language in the World. It engages students from various departments and faculties and hosts representatives from the Embassy and Consulate of Italy as well as the Italian Cultural Institute in Kyiv. The Center also organises competitions for the best translations of poetry and literary texts, holds Olympiads, and co-organises the Universiadi in partnership with ANILS. Additionally, the Center participates in the project “La letteratura salva la vita”, organised by the Italian Cultural Institute together with ANILS — an ongoing series of online literary and artistic meetings with Italian writers, poets, journalists, and lecturers.
The Center carries out a wide range of activities and regularly invites Italian lecturers, scholars, and professionals from various fields to meet with students. It collaborates with universities in Italy, notably organising teleconferences with Sapienza University of Rome. The Center also provides students with information about academic exchange programmes, scholarships for studying in Italy, and all events related to the study of the Italian language.
A key event for the Center in 2024 was the visit of representatives from the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Republic, led by Deputy Speaker Giorgio Mulè. The guests also had the opportunity to engage in conversations with students of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology who are studying the Italian language.
An integral part of Italian culture is cinema, which is why the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology periodically organises film screenings. Additionally, students attend movie screenings held with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Kyiv at the “Zhovten” Cinema.
The Center for Italian Studies offers a wide range of educational, didactic, literary, and journalistic literature. Thanks to its active collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute and the Embassy of Italy in Ukraine, the Center’s library regularly receives new educational materials and literary works to enhance students’ proficiency in the Italian language.
The Center for Italian Studies closely collaborates with the Association of Italian Language Teachers in Ukraine (AILTU).
The Coordinator of the Center for Italian Studies is A.O. Seliverstova.
