The center was established in 2006 with the support of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine. Since then, it has actively collaborated with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, which plays a crucial role by providing financial assistance.
Annually, the center organizes international scientific and practical conferences on Japanese studies called “Sakura,” with support from the Japan Foundation. It also facilitates visits from representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine; prepares, writes and publishes textbooks, educational manuals, dictionaries, reference books; conducts training sessions for participants of the All-Ukrainian Speech Contest in Japanese; provides preparation for the Japanese language exam under the internship program funded by the Government of Japan.
Since 2008, with the financial support of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, two key programs have been consistently operating at the center. The first program offers Japanese language courses for all citizens of Ukraine and provides preparatory courses for philology students to help them prepare for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test, known as “Nōryoku Shiken.” The second program focuses on writing, editing, and publishing scientific, educational, and methodological literature in the field of Japanese studies. Thanks to the funding from Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, lecturers from the Department of Far East and Southeast Asia Languages and Literature at the Institute of Philology have published 44 books on Japanese studies, including monographs, textbooks, manuals, and dictionaries, each with a print run of at least 300 copies. This work has established a solid foundation for the modern scientific and educational framework of Japanese Studies in Ukraine. Throughout the center’s existence, a total of 564 scientific and methodological works on Japanese studies have been published.
The Center is headed by I. Bondarenko, Doctor of Philology, Academician of ASHE Ukraine, Honoured Worker of Education of Ukraine.
