The Center for Slavic Studies was established in February 2007. It has laid a strong foundation for its activities through cooperation agreements with several major Slavic universities abroad, including Masaryk University in Brno, Charles University in Prague, Palacký University in Olomouc (Czech Republic), and the University of Belgrade in Serbia.
The Center coordinates international cooperation with partner higher education institutions, develops joint academic programs, and facilitates student participation from the Department of Slavic Philology in international cultural and educational initiatives. It also provides informational support for students pursuing internships at leading educational institutions in Slavic countries.
Another important task of the Center is to promote participation among students, postgraduate researchers, and faculty members with a focus on Slavic studies in international scholarly conferences. A major step in this direction has been the Center’s involvement in organizing the annual International Conference Slavic Readings in the Memory of Academician Leonid Bulakhovskyi, in collaboration with the Department of Slavic Philology and various institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Another essential aspect of the scientific and educational initiatives supported by the Center for Slavic Studies is the organization of regular meetings and discussions with native speakers. In this regard, special attention is given to introducing students to prominent figures in Slavic science and the arts, including well-known contemporary writers, artists, actors, and directors, as well as representatives from the ministries of culture in various Slavic countries.
The Center regularly hosts language clubs, seminars, presentations, contests, and creative events marking significant dates in the history of Slavic studies. International friendship societies, in particular, “Ukraine-Serbia”, etc., actively participate in these activities.
Among the Center’s core tasks is to prepare relevant scientific and methodological publications, providing students, graduate students, and faculty members with educational, literary, and informational materials, including periodicals. In cooperation with the Department of Slavic Philology, the Center publishes the collection of scientific papers Comparative Studies of Slavic Languages and Literatures: In Memory of Academician Leonid Bulakhovskyi.
The Director of the Center is Nadiia Bilyk, PhD in Philology.
