The international cooperation of the Educational and Research Institute of Philology actualizes the professional exchange of theoretical knowledge and experience in the study and research of world languages and literatures with leading international centers of education and science – universities, specialized institutions, departments, etc. This allows us to constantly maintain effective contacts with reputable research philologists, teachers, native speakers, implement international projects with them (at the Institute and abroad), send teachers, graduate students, and students on language and professional internships to the University’s strategic partners.
The international scientific cooperation of the Educational and Research Institute of Philology is dynamized by two main vectors: academic and educational.
The academic activity of the Institute in the format of international cooperation is connected with the long-term effective contacts of its employees with colleagues representing professional philological research in different countries of the world. Their languages, literatures, and cultures are systematically researched by our professors and graduate students, and studied by our students.
Scientific cooperation and multidisciplinary research of the Institute is carried out in international projects (USA, China, Japan, Great Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Poland, Czech Republic, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Lithuania, Turkey, South Korea, India, UAE, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, Qatar, Kuwait, Algeria, etc.), in accordance with the agreements and programs of professional internships, academic mobility (in particular, Erasmus+, Fulbright, Global UGRAD, Carnegie Research Fellowship, Campusfrance, DAAD, House of Europe, etc.)
Effective international cooperation is realized in the long-term “Institutional Partnership of Germanists”: first with the Herder Institute of the University of Leipzig, and since 2017 – with the Ruhr University of Bochum (Germany), which provides for annual exchanges of students, postgraduates and teachers of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation.
Within the framework of the agreement between Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the Universities of Granada (Spain), Florence (Italy) and Paul Valery Montpellier III University (France), teachers and students of the Department of Romance Philology annually undergo professional internships at these institutions.
The Department of Polonistics is a permanent representative of the international activities of the ERIF in various cooperation agreements with leading educational centers in Poland, including Warsaw, Jagiellonian, Wroclaw, Lublin, Rzeszow Universities, the University of Bialystok, and the Polonium Academy in Czestochowa.
Teachers and students of the Department of Slavic Philology actively implement effective professional communication with universities in Bulgaria, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, and Croatia, and cooperate with the embassies of Slavic countries in Ukraine.
The Department of Stylistics and Language Communication updates new ideas of linguistic science at the Institute, synchronized with the activities of the International Committee of Slavists (Prof. L. Shevchenko is the Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Committee of Slavists) and the International Chamber of Commerce (Prof. L. Shevchenko is the Head of the Bureau of Linguistic Expertise).
Teachers of the Department of Methods of Teaching Ukrainian and Foreign Languages and Literatures conduct inter-university research with colleagues from the University of Bradfordshire, Southampton Solent University (UK), the University of Cyprus, and the University of Heidelberg (Germany).
The Center for Baltic Studies coordinates international cooperation within the framework of bilateral agreements with higher education and research institutions of the Republic of Lithuania – Vytautas the Great University (Kaunas), Vytautas the Great University Academy of Education (Vilnius), Lithuanian Language Institute (Vilnius), Klaipeda University, Vilnius University, etc.
Student mobility
– Within the framework of existing agreements on scientific cooperation and student exchange with more than 20 leading universities in China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, as well as with the assistance of the Hanban International Agency (China), the Department of Languages and Literatures of the Far East and Southeast Asia annually sends more than 50 undergraduate and graduate students for language and scientific internships.
– The staff of the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Languages and Literatures develops international cooperation with universities and educational institutions in India, the UAE, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, Qatar, Kuwait, Algeria, where teachers, graduate students and students undergo language training and participate in international scientific conferences.
– The Department of Turkic Studies maintains active scientific and cultural ties with higher education institutions in Turkey. In particular, since 2018, the University of Istanbul has been enrolling students in the specialty “Ukrainian Language and Literature”. A strategic partner of the Institute is also the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), which employs graduates of the Department of Turkology.
– Students of the Hindi language groups, with the assistance of the Center for Hindi Language and Indian Literature, undergo internships at the Central Institute of Hindi Language in Delhi and Agra (India), participate in conferences and publish articles in Indian electronic publications. During summer vacations, the center organizes trips to India for students.
– Thanks to the cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Indonesia, since 2013, students have had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Indonesia and practice the language they study at the institute under the Darmasiswa scholarship program. Since 2017, it has become possible for our bachelor’s graduates to enter master’s programs at Indonesian universities under the KNB Scholarship program with a diploma in Indonesia. At present, three bachelor’s graduates of the Institute of Physics and Mathematics have already received a master’s degree in the Indonesian higher education institution in Jogjakarta.
– The Center for Korean Language and Literature conducts student exchange programs between universities of the Republic of Korea and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Every semester, several Ukrainian students have the opportunity to undergo a language internship in Korea.
– The Center for German Language and Culture cooperates with the German Cultural Center Goethe Institute in Ukraine and the German Embassy in Ukraine. Students of the Institute undergo translation practice at the Center and the Goethe Institute in Ukraine (in particular, translations of articles for the Ukrainian-language page of the Goethe Institute in Ukraine, a translation workshop on the translation of a magazine on the history of comics).
The Educational and Research Institute of Philology regularly hosts open lectures by reputable scholars from Spain, Italy, France, and Poland.
Teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages of the School of History and the School of Philosophy organize events with the participation of representatives of embassies of European and American countries, DINTERNAL and other international institutions. Such meetings help students to improve their foreign language skills and to study in depth the history, philosophy, political system, culture and traditions of the world.
