In 1994, in order to ensure the teaching of English at the faculties of physics and mathematics, by separating it from the Department of English for Natural Sciences Faculties, the Department of English for Physics and Mathematics Faculties was founded.
In 2012, as a result of the reorganization of the Department of English for Physics and Mathematics Faculties, in accordance with the Orders of the Rector “On Changes in the Structure of the University” and “On the Reorganization of the Departments of the Institute of Philology”, the Department of Foreign Languages for Mathematical Faculties was established.
The first heads of the department were Assoc. Prof. M.V. Petrovskyi and Assoc. Prof. Ye.I. Vetrova. From 2004 to 2024, Assoc. Prof. N.V. Solovey headed the department. Currently, the department is headed by Assoc. Prof. S.D. Isaieva.
The Department of Foreign Languages for Mathematics Faculties employs 29 university teachers, including 2 Doctors of Sciences (Professors), 16 Candidates of Sciences (Associate Professors), 6 Candidates of Sciences (without academic title), and 5 Assistants Professors.
The Department of Foreign Languages for Mathematical Faculties provides foreign language training for higher education applicants at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, the Faculty of Computer Science and Cybernetics, and the Faculty of Information Technologies. The department’s teachers teach the following subjects: “foreign language” for the 1st and 2nd year full-time students (education and qualification level “bachelor”), “foreign language” and “foreign language for specific purposes” for the 3rd and 4th year students (education and qualification level “bachelor”), “foreign language for academic purposes” and “foreign language for specific purposes” for the 1st year students of master’s degree (education and qualification level “master”), “academic writing in English” for postgraduate students, “foreign language” and “foreign language for specific purposes” for correspondence study students.

Within the framework of the Comprehensive Scientific Program of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv “Modernization of Social Development of Ukraine in the Conditions of World Processes of Globalization”, the Department carries out the topic “Understanding of Mathematical Sciences”. The priority task of the Department is the lexical and grammatical assessment of integration processes in the field of mathematical sciences, which gives rise to the problem of international standardization of terms as a basis for understanding between specialists from different countries by creating Ukrainian standards for terminological dictionaries and using the obtained materials to compile an explanatory mathematical dictionary with the translation of mathematical terms into Ukrainian.
The activities of the Department of Foreign Languages for Mathematical Faculties are determined by the Strategic Development Plan of the University, and the Rules of Internal Regulations of the University and are carried out by the Licensing Conditions for the Conduct of Educational Activities.
