This structural unit of the Institute was established in 2007 with the support of the Embassy of France in Ukraine as a research center focused on teaching and learning. Throughout its history, the center has considerably broadened its operational scope. In 2014, it was renamed the French Center and has since become a true Francophone hub within the university environment.
The primary objectives of the center are to conduct research on the French language at the University and in other higher education institutions in Kyiv and Ukraine; to create a real and digital Francophone space for students and faculty; to collaborate with the embassies of France and other Francophone countries in Ukraine about initial and ongoing French language education as a foreign language; to provide information on teaching/learning French, higher education in France, academic mobility programs, and Francophone events in Ukraine and worldwide.
These goals are brought to life by a team uniting university faculty and lecturers from the Embassy of France in Ukraine. The center’s collective potential is further enhanced by the Ukrainian Association of Teachers of French and the Administrative Council, which has a local branch here. This allows the center to engage the entire network of the Association in its projects and activities.
The Embassy of France in Ukraine plays an exceptional role in the functioning of the center, providing financial, organizational, and material support to ensure that events such as the Francophone marathon, film club, discussion seminars, the Francophonie celebration, the Center’s Day, and many others become traditional and help expand the university’s Francophone audience.
The Coordinator of the Center is T. Burmistenko, PhD in Philology.
