The center, established in 2015 with the assistance of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, is integrated within the Department of Languages and Literatures of Far East and Southeast Asia. Notably, this department has the only dedicated unit in Ukraine for training specialists in the Indonesian language, literature, and translation.
Employees of the center, on the initiative of the Embassy of Indonesia, actively participate in the preparation and organisation of various events, where celebrations of Indonesian national holidays (the anniversary of Independence Day, Culture Day), the Festival of Cultures and Cuisine of Asia, and events dedicated to Indonesian culture and tourism (together with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Ukraine, Qatar Airways, and Boryspil Airport), as well as culture festivals and charity fairs, take place.
The center is regularly visited by delegations – representatives of embassies, professors of Indonesian universities, journalists, and cultural figures – where Indonesian language lecturers actively participate in discussions on Indonesian history and culture, as well as in educational cooperation programs.
Once a year, the center holds a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Ukraine.
Thanks to cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia since 2013, students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Indonesia and practice the language they are studying at the institute through the “Darmasiswa” scholarship program.
Since the opening of the educational program at the Institute, 27 students have completed training in Indonesia. Since 2017, it has become possible for our bachelor’s graduates to enter the master’s programs at Indonesian universities under the KNB Scholarship program and receive a degree in Indonesia. Currently, three bachelor’s graduates of the Institute of Philology have already obtained a master’s degree from a higher education institution in Yogyakarta.
During the center’s existence, the lecturers prepared a textbook on the theoretical grammar of the Indonesian language, an anthology of 20th-century poetry, wrote and published 9 articles on Indonesian linguistics in Ukrainian scientific journals, and participated in 2 international scientific and practical conferences.
The сentre is headed by P. Khimavan, PhD. in Philology.
