The Center was established in 1999 in collaboration with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The aim of the Center’s work is to promote Greek and Cypriot culture in Ukraine, support the communities of ethnic Greeks in Ukraine, and distribute the scientific achievements of Ukrainian Hellenists.
The Center regularly organises Hellenistic academic conferences and literary-artistic evenings. It also promotes student internship programmes.
In cooperation with the Embassies of Greece and Cyprus, the Center for the Greek Language, and the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, the unit implements a translation programme for Modern Greek literature. Works by renowned Greek and Cypriot authors have been published as standalone volumes, including those by G. Seferis (2013), C. Cavafy (2017), R. Galanaki (2020), A. Georgiou (2020), and C. Sotiriou (2021).
In cooperation with the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Catholic University, the Center launched the Ukrainian Hellenic Studies series, which includes dictionaries, collective monographs, and selected works by prominent Ukrainian Hellenists.
The Center’s staff provide interpretation services during official visits to Ukraine, including those of Greek Prime Ministers Costas Simitis (2002) and Alexis Tsipras (2017), President of Cyprus Demetris Christofias (2011) and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew (2021).
The Center is headed by A. Savenko, PhD in Philology.
